N200 is “Core i5-class” only against old low-power Core i5. Against 12th-gen and later Core i5, Ryzen 5, or Core Ultra 5, it is clearly lower.

Where N200 sits
Intel N200 is Alder Lake-N. Intel’s spec is 4 cores / 4 threads, up to 3.70GHz, 6W TDP. It is not a high-end notebook Core i5. You see it in cheap notebooks, mini PCs, school machines, and small office boxes.
The plus is that it is much easier than old Celeron and Pentium Silver. Browser, Office, and video no longer feel “cheap, so everything is slow.” The minus is little spare room. Light work is fine. Open many things at once and RAM and CPU run out.

Some PassMark snapshots show N100 averages above N200. That does not mean N200 is always slower. Cooling, power limits, sample mix, and RAM configs move the numbers. On N-series, the chassis matters more than the CPU name.
The buy rule is simple. If N200 and N100 sit close in price and RAM/SSD match, take N200. If N200 costs about $70 or more extra, an N100 with 16GB RAM often feels better.
Work that stays comfortable
